Boho is having another moment in Treasure Valley wedding hair. Not the heavy, over-styled boho of the early 2010s. The softer, more lived-in version that suits ranch, vineyard, and outdoor Idaho weddings. We see eight specific looks repeating across our Sølvi bridal calendar this year.
This article walks through each one, with notes on what hair type it suits and what venues we tend to see it at.
1. The Loose Half Up
Soft waves left down with the front section pulled back into a loose twist. The defining feature is that nothing looks pinned. Pieces fall around the face naturally. This is the most requested boho look at Sølvi right now and it works for almost every hair length and texture.
Best for: outdoor weddings where wind is a factor. The half up keeps the face clear without locking the hair down.
2. The Braided Crown
A continuous braid that wraps around the back of the head. We weave in pieces from the hair underneath so the crown looks layered, not rigid. This is the look we see most often at Emmett orchard weddings and Star ranch ceremonies.
Best for: medium to long hair with some texture. Very straight fine hair needs prep work to hold a crown braid.
3. The Low Romantic Bun
Loose, textured, and sitting at the nape. Pieces deliberately escape around the face and ears. This is not a tight ballerina bun. It is the bun version of effortless.
Best for: long hair, lower veil placements, and brides who want a quieter style that lets the face do the work.
4. Woven Strand Detail
Single braids or twists woven through otherwise loose hair. Often paired with a half up. The boho touch is one or two prominent woven strands rather than full braiding.
Best for: brides who want a touch of texture without committing to a fully braided look.
5. The Wildflower Crown Style
Hair styled around real or dried flowers, woven directly into braids or pinned through a half up. The look came back hard with the dried floral trend.
Best for: outdoor venues, daytime ceremonies, photo heavy weddings. Not great for very humid climates, but Idaho is dry, which is in our favor.
6. The Lived In Wave
Loose textured waves left fully down. The trick is in the prep, not the final styling. We use a curling iron to set the wave then break it down with fingers and a touch of finishing oil so it does not look like a curling iron just left.
Best for: long hair, beach inspired venues, and brides who want the easiest possible look that still photographs incredibly.
7. The Twisted Updo
Multiple loose twists pinned into a sculptural shape at the back of the head. More structured than the romantic bun, but softer than a traditional chignon. We see this most often at modern Boise venues with a contemporary aesthetic.
Best for: brides who want an updo that reads modern rather than vintage.
8. The Pulled Back Pony
A low, slightly textured ponytail with face framing pieces left out. This is the easiest look to wear all night and the most underrated boho option. Very flattering, very photogenic.
Best for: brides with very long hair, hot ceremony days, and venues where hair holding through dancing matters more than holding through wind.
How We Build Boho Hair That Lasts
Boho looks photograph as effortless, but they hold by design. We build them in three layers: a structural base for hold, a flexible middle layer for movement, and a finishing layer for shine and softness. The base is dry shampoo plus a light hold setting product. The middle is the actual styling. The finish is a light oil and a flexible hold spray.
For finishing, we love Davines Oi Oil. A few drops into the palms, worked through the ends, and the boho look reads polished without looking heavy.
Picking the Right Look for Your Venue
Outdoor weddings need finishing products with more hold. Vineyard weddings often have wind. Ranch and orchard weddings deal with sun and heat. Indoor venues have stable air, so styling holds with less effort. We adjust the build based on the venue, which is part of why the trial is so important.
