What K-Tip Extensions Are
K-tip extensions (also called keratin bond extensions) are individual strands of high-quality human hair attached to your natural hair with a small keratin bond. Each strand is installed with a heat tool that softens the keratin tip, then crimped onto a small section of your hair. The result is 360-degree movement, undetectable placement, and the most natural feel of any extension method.
Who They Are Best For
- Targeted areas: face frame, sparse hairline, density around the temples
- Updo wearers: K-tips work in any direction and any style
- Fine hair on the hairline that cannot support a weft
- Clients who want the most seamless, undetectable finish
- Anyone whose hair grows in unusual directions at the crown or hairline
K-Tips vs Wefts: When Each Wins
K-tips are not better or worse than wefts. They are different tools for different jobs. We choose based on your hair and your goals:
- K-tips win when you need targeted placement, you have an unusual growth pattern, or you wear a lot of updos
- Wefts win when you want broad density across the back and sides without strand-by-strand installation time
- Combination wins when you want both: density from wefts plus face-frame finish from K-tips

The Sølvi K-Tip Process
Step 1: Edit Consultation ($50, applied to install)
Thirty minutes with your extension stylist. We map out exactly where the K-tips will go, how many strands you need, and what color blend matches your hair. You leave with a specific quote.
Step 2: Custom Hair Sourcing
K-tips come in standard pack sizes, but the color matching is anything but standard. We custom-blend tones to match dimensional color and place lighter pieces around the face for natural light-catching brightness.
Step 3: Install Day
Install takes 2 to 4 hours depending on coverage. We section your hair finely, install each K-tip strand by strand, then style the finished look. The bonds are flat, smooth, and invisible under your natural hair.
Step 4: Removal and Reinstall (4 to 6 Months)
K-tips do not need move-ups every 6 weeks like wefts. Instead, the entire set gets removed and reinstalled every 4 to 6 months. Removal uses a keratin dissolver, never pulling or yanking. The process is gentle on your natural hair.
Pricing
- Edit Consultation: $50 (applied to install)
- Install labor: hourly, typically 2 to 4 hours
- Hair (per pack): $150 to $300
- Most full installs: $600 to $1800 all-in
- Removal: billed hourly, typically $150 to $300
What Makes Sølvi Different
- Heat-controlled installation. The wrong heat setting on a K-tip damages your hair. We calibrate every install.
- Tension-controlled placement. Each K-tip is anchored to a section of hair sized correctly for the weight of the strand.
- Custom face-frame work. K-tips around the face are placed by the stylist who knows your color and your features.
- Safe removal. We never pull a K-tip out. Every removal uses a keratin dissolver.
Service Area
We are based in downtown Boise at 104 South Capitol Boulevard, Suite 200, serving extension clients across the Treasure Valley: Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Star, Kuna, Garden City, Caldwell, Middleton, and Emmett.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are K-tip extensions?
K-tip extensions are individual strands of hair bonded one-by-one to your natural hair with a small keratin tip. Each strand is attached with a heat tool that softens the bond, then crimped onto a small section of hair.
How long do K-tip extensions last?
K-tips typically last 4 to 6 months before needing to be removed and reinstalled. The hair itself can sometimes be reused for a second cycle.
Are K-tips damaging?
Not when installed and removed correctly. The damage risk comes from improper installation, wearing them too long, or rough removal. At Sølvi, every K-tip is placed with tension control and removed with a keratin dissolver.
Can I get K-tips for a sparse hairline?
Yes. K-tips are ideal for targeted placement around the face, filling sparse areas, or adding density without bulk. This is one of the best uses of the method.
How much do K-tip extensions cost in Boise?
K-tips are priced per pack plus hourly install. Most installs at Sølvi run $600 to $1800 depending on the area you want to target and the number of strands needed.
Can K-tips and wefts be combined?
Yes. Many of our clients combine methods. Wefts for density through the back, K-tips for targeted face-frame or hairline work. We plan combination installs during your Edit Consultation.
