NouNou Shampoo Refill Pouch: A Stylist's Review

Every winter, the same conversation happens at the chairs at Sølvi Salon. A client sits down, we run our fingers through the ends, and we feel it. Boise air pulls moisture out of hair the way it pulls it out of your lips and hands. Add color, lightening, or a few too many hot tools, and the damage stacks up fast. The Davines NouNou Shampoo Refill Pouch is one of the washes we reach for most when that is the story the hair is telling. We have kept it in rotation on real heads at Sølvi since last fall, so here is our honest take.

What it actually is

NouNou is the most nourishing wash in the Davines Essentials range, and it is built specifically for damaged hair. We mean chemically treated, over-processed, or very dry strands. The refill pouch holds 500ml (16 oz) and sells for $56.00 on our shelf at Sølvi. It is meant to top off your existing NouNou bottle rather than replace it. That distinction matters, and we will come back to it. The formula leans on rich emollients to repair and soften, so it behaves less like a stripping daily shampoo and more like the first step of a treatment.

How it performs behind the chair

The first thing you notice is the lather. It is creamy and spa-like, the kind of wash that feels like you are already conditioning while you cleanse. On bleached blondes and balayage clients whose ends had gone straw-dry, we saw the comb glide through wet hair with far less snagging after a couple of weeks of regular use. That is the emollient content doing its job. For our Boise clients fighting that low-humidity frizz, hair sat calmer and looked less thirsty by midweek.

We always pair it the way Davines intends. Shampoo and condition in the shower, then use the NouNou mask once a week for a heavier treatment. Used alone, NouNou shampoo is good. Used as part of the full NouNou ritual, it is where the damaged-hair payoff really shows up. You can see the rest of the lineup in our Davines NouNou collection.

Who it is for

This is the wash we recommend for hair that has been through something. Highlights that went too far, a relaxer or smoothing service, a summer of sun and chlorine, or just years of heat styling in a dry climate. If your hair feels rough at the ends and your usual shampoo leaves it squeaky, NouNou is worth a try. It sits comfortably alongside the other repair options in our damaged hair collection.

The honest drawback

Here is the part most product write-ups skip. This is a refill pouch, not the bottle. If you do not already own a NouNou bottle to decant into, the pouch is not your starting point. Pouring from pouch to bottle can get a little messy if you rush it, and some clients simply prefer grabbing a fresh bottle off the shelf. The refill is a smart, lower-waste reorder once you know you love the formula. As a first purchase, it is the wrong format. We point first-timers to the standard bottle and save the pouch for the restock.

One more note. Because NouNou is so rich, it is not the wash for fine, oily, or undamaged hair that just needs a light clean. It can read heavy on hair that does not need that much moisture. If that is you, ask us about a lighter Davines option instead.

Our verdict

For damaged, dry, color-treated hair living through Idaho winters, NouNou earns its spot on the shelf at Sølvi Salon. It is one of the products our stylists genuinely use, and the refill pouch makes the repurchase easier on both your budget and the bin. You can find the NouNou Shampoo Refill Pouch here, and if you are not sure whether your hair needs this much moisture, that is exactly the kind of thing we sort out at the start of an appointment.
