A client asked us last week why we keep two liter bottles of Davines Oi on the shelf right behind the chair instead of tucking them away. The honest answer is that our stylists at Sølvi reach for the Oi shampoo and conditioner more than almost anything else in the studio, and the liter size is what keeps us from running out mid-week. So here are our notes on the Oi liter pairing, written the way we would explain it to you while you are sitting in our downtown Boise studio at 104 S Capitol Blvd.
What the Oi liter bundle actually is
First, a clarification that matters. There is no single SKU called the Oi Liter Bundle. It is two products we pair together: the Oi Shampoo in the liter size and the Oi Conditioner in the liter size. We talk about them as a set because that is how they work best, and because the liter bottles last long enough that buying them together makes sense for most of our regulars.
The one ingredient that does the work
The whole Oi line is built around Roucou oil. It is an antioxidant-rich oil that softens and smooths the hair without weighing it down. That is the part we care about behind the chair. A lot of softening products coat the hair and leave it limp by day two. Oi does not. It works across hair types, from fine to coarse, which is why we can use the same bottle on a client with thin baby-fine hair and the next client with thick, coarse texture.
Why it earns its spot in dry Idaho air
Boise is dry. Our high-desert air pulls moisture out of hair the same way it pulls it out of your skin, and winter makes it worse. Frizz and flyaways are the most common thing we hear about from clients, especially the ones commuting in from the Bench or the Foothills where the wind does no favors. The antioxidant finish on Oi calms that flyaway halo and adds shine, so hair reads smoother without looking greasy. The signature scent is also genuinely nice, and it lingers through the day.
How we use it in the studio
It is simple, which is part of why we like it. Work a small amount of shampoo through clean, damp hair, then follow with the conditioner from mid-length to ends. Comb it through and style as usual. A little goes a long way, and that is true even with a liter bottle in your hand. The most common mistake we see is people using too much, which is the fastest way to make any softening product feel heavy.
Who it is not for
We promised honest notes, so here is the real talk. Oi is a softener, not a deep repair treatment or a heavy moisture mask. If your hair is very damaged from bleach or color, or if Idaho winter has left it feeling straw-dry, Oi alone will not fix that. You will want a richer mask in the rotation, and we are happy to recommend one. The scent is also polarizing. Most people love it, but a handful of clients find it too strong, so it is worth smelling before you commit to a liter. And the liter pair is a real upfront cost. The shampoo liter runs $105 and the conditioner liter runs $122, so you are looking at roughly $227 for the set. The trade is that these bottles last a long time and the per-wash cost drops well below the standard size.
Our bottom line
The Oi liter bundle is the right call if you already know you love the line and you wash often enough to justify the size. It is the wrong call as a first try, since the standard sizes exist for exactly that. If you are not sure whether Oi suits your hair, ask us at your next visit. We will put a little through your hair so you can feel the difference before you buy. You can see what we offer on our services page, and when you are ready, book an appointment and we will sort out the right routine for your hair and our Boise climate together.
